This 3/11 incident began around 9:30 a.m., when a deputy was flagged down by an employee at Publix at 605 Courtland Blvd., Deltona, FL. The employee was in pursuit of a suspect who had attempted to steal a Sonicare brush and a dental guard. The deputy encountered the suspect, later identified as David Readdean, at the front door of Readdean’s vehicle. Readdean struggled with the deputy and then took off in the car. During the struggle he dropped two baggies of heroin, along with his phone and more than $500 cash.
Readdean later crashed into a tree in front of 922 Fort Smith Blvd. and ran away. He ran up to a nearby vehicle (occupied by a woman and her two kids), opened the door and jumped into the back, landing on the children, ages 3 and 6. He demanded she drive away, and she did, in fear that he might hurt her or her kids. She later dropped him off near Saxon Boulevard and Woffington Avenue.
Later Monday, VCSO SWAT made entry at 783 Gainsboro Street, Deltona, and found Readdean hiding inside. He was taken into custody on his numerous charges, which include resisting an officer with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, escape, carjacking, three counts of kidnapping, possession of heroin and driving without a valid license. His bond was $247,500.
