Officials are investigating after a local correction officer was attacked while on his way to work.
The Suffolk County Sheriff's Department tells Boston 25 News an officer was arriving to work at the Suffolk County House of Correction Thursday morning when he was attacked.
The officer, who was not yet in his uniform, told police while driving down Atkinson Street, a man yelled out to him. He rolled down his driver's side window and was smacked in the face.
Once outside of the car, he was surrounded by multiple people who began to attack him. He said at one point he was hit with a metal object and witnesses also said the victim was hit in the face with a metal pipe. At least five people assaulted him and stole his watch, glasses, and phone. The victim told police they also tried to take his wallet.
One person, identified as 45-year-old Torre Jenkins, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle and attempted larceny of a motor vehicle. Police say Jenkins was also found to have four active warrants for distribution of a Class A drug, distribution and possession of Class B drugs, assault and battery on a public employee, disturbing a correctional institution, and disorderly conduct.
