On April 29, Lakeside Academy resident Cornelius Fredericks was restrained after throwing food.
In the security video provided by Fieger Law, seven staff members lay across Fredericks' body. Policy states that only two or three people should be involved in a hold. The state has time-stamped the restraint as lasting 12 minutes -- two minutes longer than what is advised. An estimated 12 minutes pass before 911 is called.
Fredericks was still unresponsive when taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital. Two days later, he died of cardiac arrest.
Two staff members involved in the restraint have been charged with involuntary manslaughter. A nurse who stood nearby during the restraint has also been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
