Video released from the Chicago Police Department on Monday, July 20, 2020 shows protesters marching Friday, July 17, 2020 through Grant Park and clashes between protesters and police near the Christopher Columbus statue.
[1:20] - They hide behind their signs and raise umbrellas as members change into all black outfits.
[2:09] - People on bikes block other protestors and allow members through to take lead as they head into the park.
[3:12] - People with carts and coolers arrive to dispense frozen cans and water bottles. Members begin throwing cans at officers.
[3:36] - Members still holding the sign continue to move towards police officers at the monument. In a press conference, the super intendant said the signs, which were held together by sharpened PVC pipes, were then broken down and used to stab at officers. Can't tell if they were sharpened or it was just they fractured when broken. Maybe there's a longer video that they have.
Everything after that is from the police's general perspective. At one point a firework/explosive goes off shattering an officer's eye socket. Another officer had his kneecap broken. 49 officers in total were injured with 18 going to the hospital.
