AKRON, Ohio – Police are searching for a driver who got out of his car and shot at kids playing basketball on an Akron street after one of the boys yelled at him to drive slower on the residential road.
The 11- and 15-year-old boys, none of whom were wounded, were shooting hoops around 4:30 p.m. Sunday on their street – the 1400 block of Rockaway Street on Akron’s West Side, according to a police report.
A white Pontiac G6 with tinted windows and temporary tags sped down the street, and the 15-year-old yelled for it to slow down, police said.
The driver stopped a couple houses away, got out of the car with a handgun and fired several times before getting back in the car and driving away, according to police. No one was hurt and no buildings were struck in the shooting.
“There have been no arrests at this time, but detectives are currently working on it and following up on leads,” police Capt. David Laughlin said Tuesday.
