Newly-released body camera video from an Ohio police department shows an intense exchange between law enforcement and a driver with a gun.
The Genoa Township Police Department said the traffic stop, with assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, took place in the early morning hours of Dec. 2 on I-71.
A township police officer, OSHP trooper, and drug-sniffing K-9 were seen outside of the uncooperative driver’s SUV.
Police said the man had a firearm on the seat next to him and refused to obey the officer’s commands to exit his vehicle.
“As you can see from the video the Trooper and Officer Sigman were engaged in a very tense situation that could have turned out tragically and both of them acted with great restraint and professionalism,” Chief Steve Gammill
The driver closed the car door in front of the officers and sped off. Police said he was eventually arrested after a lengthy pursuit.
Genoa Township is in Delaware County, approximately 20 miles north of downtown Columbus.
