At least six people were killed and ten injured after shots rang out in California's capital city early Sunday morning.
Sacramento officers were patrolling the area at about 2am when they heard gunfire near 10th and J Streets, Police Chief Kathy Lester said during a news conference.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a large crowd gathered on the street and six people dead.
Ten others were transported to area hospitals by ambulance and private vehicles. Their conditions remain unknown.
'[This is] a very complex and complicated scene,' Lester told the media, issuing a plea to residents to provide any information of recordings of the incident to police.
Police have not provided any information about the shooter, however, a law enforcement source told The Sacramento Bee the gunman remains at large. Authorities did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com's request for comment.
At least two videos circulating on social media captured sounds of shots fired.
Bystanders told California-based reporter Malik Earnest they heard more than fifty shots ring out before the gunman's vehicle screeched away from the chaotic scene.
One of the videos shows multiple people fighting on the sidewalk as rapid gunfire strikes, prompting people to run through the streets.
