New video of a violent car crash at the Greater Columbus Convention Center last week shows that it's miraculous that no one was seriously injured or killed as the vehicle ran a red light at what authorities say was about 70 mph, as pedestrians, cars and buses traversed High Street nearby around lunchtime on a business day.
The new footage also shows that had the car not rammed into a steel support column inside the Convention Center after plowing through a glass wall, it may have continued through the interior of the facility, which was hosting several events at the time including a girls junior volleyball championship.
Police reports do not state whether "Autopilot," a Tesla self-driving feature, played any role in the crash — or even if they asked the driver if it was engaged at the time. The driver told police the car lost its ability to brake while he was traveling on Route 315 and would not stop after he exited Downtown onto Vine Street.
