LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — An Arkansas motorcyclist was hospitalized after he was engulfed in flames when he was tased by a state trooper, authorities said.
Christopher Gaylor, 38, of Little Rock, was wearing a backpack with a gallon of gasoline inside when he was tased, igniting the bag, KHBS-TV reported. According to Arkansas State Police, Gaylor faces charges of felony fleeing, failure to register a vehicle, no liability insurance, driving with a suspended license, and reckless driving, KHBS reported.
At about 1:18 a.m. CDT on Oct. 13, a state trooper tried to stop a motorcycle in Little Rock that did not have a visible license plate, NBC News reported. State police said Gaylor “refused to comply” and continued driving, attaining speeds in excess of 100 mph and running several traffic signals and stop signs.
The chase ended after Gaylor jumped off his motorcycle in North Little Rock and fled on foot, KHBS reported. One trooper in pursuit attempted to use a Taser to apprehend him, and the barbs of the device struck Gaylor he was engulfed by flames, CNN reported.
Troopers put out the fire and provided medical assistance to Gaylor while waiting for an ambulance, according to NBC News.
The state troopers involved in the chase are not facing disciplinary actions, state police said. No troopers have been placed on leave.
