A suspect was taken into custody after a shootout with police and a chase that ended with a crash in South Los Angeles Thursday night.
The drama unfolded around 9:30 p.m. when police received a “shots fired” call near West 110th Street and South Broadway in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood.
“Community members saw this individual actually firing in the area,” Los Angeles Police Department Detective Meghan Aguilar said.
One witness said the suspect even pointed the gun toward him and fired.
Officers found the suspect in an alley west of Broadway, between 111th Street and 111th Place.
“At that time, the suspect shot at the officers and they returned fire,” Aguilar said.
The suspect then ran southbound to the end of the alley where another exchange of gunfire took place before the suspect got into a white SUV and drove away.
Officers pursued the SUV for about 7 minutes until the suspect crashed into several parked cars near East 97th Street and Towne Avenue, at which point he surrendered.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
It did not appear anyone was wounded by gunfire, police said.
A person who was sitting in a parked vehicle that was struck by the SUV was not seriously hurt.
Aguilar said investigators found three handguns in the suspect’s vehicle
