A tragic incident occurred on the route between Osorno and Puerto Montt in south-central Chile, as a 21-year-old man crashed his car at an alarming speed against one of the toll structures. The victim has been identified as Julio Urrea Díaz, a student of Automation and Robotics who resided with his mother.
Initial investigations suggest that Urrea Díaz was driving at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour, which is considered "unreasonable or imprudent" by the Traffic Accident Investigation Section of the Trans-Andean country. However, the police authorities have clarified that the precise speed at which the car was being driven cannot be ascertained without the technical details that are currently under investigation.
The impact of the collision was so severe that it resulted in the tragic death of Urrea Díaz, and his identity could only be established 24 hours after the incident. The toll's security cameras captured the moment when the Ford Territory, driven by the victim, approached between lanes on Route 5 South and collided head-on against the structure that separated the roads leading to one or the other booth.
The collision was so powerful that the car was engulfed in flames, and one of its parts hit the camera, causing it to lose the image for a few seconds. The police authorities are currently investigating the causes of the accident, and the severity of the impact suggests that the victim was driving at an extremely high speed.
