Regilaneo da Silva Inácio, 42, was hit by a weight machine this Friday at a gym in Juazeiro do Norte. He was hit with a machine called a "hack squat", which is used to do conventional squats. The accident caused a spinal injury considered very serious by doctors.
The patient underwent surgery that lasted four hours. The procedure consisted of placing pins and screws to reduce the fracture, with the aim of performing bone realignment and spinal cord decompression.
The doctor who performed the surgery, José Correia Junior, explained the complexity of the case. "Injury considered very serious. It is the most serious injury in the thoracolumbar region", explained the doctor.
The neurosurgeon doctor said that he had a severe injury, in which the neurons were damaged in a major way.
Maria das Dores da Silva Inácio, his sister, told g1 that Regilaneo was stable and conscious, but he couldn't feel his legs and was in danger of not walking anymore. The machine had a load of 150 kg. “We are waiting for a miracle,” she said.
