Authorities reported that De Freite was traveling in a gray Hyundai Elantra, license plate AA076KH, which overturned and ended up on the central island that divides the two sections of the highway. A video that circulated on social media shows a woman trying to stop him, yelling at him: "Where are you going? Stay there!" However, De Freite did not pay attention to the warnings, stopped in the express channel and raised his hands, at which time he was hit by a white Yutong bus, license plate ZK6145H, from Expresos Isla Mar, which was heading towards Tumeremo, Bolívar state, with 26 passengers on board.
Jacobo Vidarte, commissioner of the San Diego mayor's office for Risk Management of the Carabobo state, confirmed the information and noted that De Freite was transferred to the Mariara hospital, where unfortunately he later died. It was revealed that the young man was heading to Mariara in the company of a doctor friend, and according to those close to him, he was going through a depressive state, having tried to get out of the vehicle on two previous occasions.
On a third attempt, the driver lost control of the steering wheel, resulting in the car overturning. National Guard officials were responsible for removing the accident.
