SAN ANTONIO – Leo Xavier Pinero, 19, is accused of killing a female pedestrian early Tuesday morning while evading police. This after being convicted of evading arrest and aggravated assault against a peace officer almost exactly two years ago.
A woman was killed just after midnight on the South Side after being struck by a car driven by Leo Pinero. He fled the scene, prompting a swift police pursuit that eventually led to his capture. The deadly accident happened off West Pyron Avenue near Pleasanton Road.
Police tell us it all started as a covert narcotics investigation. Detectives believed the suspect, Leo Xavier Pinero, was carrying a large quantity of narcotics. The surveillance team was following Pinero when they sent a marked patrol car to try to get him to stop.
But Pinero and his female passenger refused to stop. Police used a chopper to help chase Pinero as the car careened down the street. He eventually lost control, striking several trash cans and a concrete guardrail before hitting a woman who was walking on the sidewalk. She was pinned under the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Turns out, this is not Leo Pinero’s first run in with police. Almost exactly two years ago, Pinero was involved in an evading arrest incident on Jan. 11, 2023. Police records show how he led police on a wild chase through residential neighborhoods in a stolen truck.
