Authorities in Pennsylvania say an 11-year-old boy has been charged with homicide in connection with the fatal shooting of his father.
Court records indicate the incident occurred after the child’s Nintendo Switch was taken away as a form of discipline.
Police were dispatched to a residence on South Market Street around 3 a.m. earlier this week after receiving a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound. When officers arrived, they found 42-year-old Douglas Dietz deceased.
The Perry County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Dietz died from a gunshot injury. Following the discovery, law enforcement detained a juvenile who lived in the home. Investigators later identified the victim’s 11-year-old son as the suspect.
Officials have not said whether any other children reside at the house.
A neighbor, Jesse Weldon, expressed shock over the situation, saying the family seemed quiet and pleasant. “They kept to themselves and were always nice,” Weldon said. “This was completely unexpected.”
