Los Angeles Daycare Worker Caught On Video Throwing Her Shoe At A 5-Year-Old

A Los Angeles daycare is facing intense backlash after surveillance footage showed a worker removing her shoe and throwing it at a 5-year-old special needs girl while other staff members appeared to laugh and do nothing.
The incident occurred at the Destiny Development Center, where the child’s mother says she trusted staff with her daughter’s care for years. According to the mother, her daughter told her about the incident the same day it happened. Despite repeatedly asking, she was not allowed to view the surveillance footage for nearly two weeks.
When the video finally surfaced, it showed a daycare employee taking off her shoe and hurling it toward the child. Two other employees were present and did not intervene or report what happened.
The daycare’s director, Danielle Williams, initially attempted to downplay the incident, suggesting it was an accident and claiming the worker was simply “throwing shoes into another room.” That explanation did little to calm outrage once the footage became public.
All three employees involved were ultimately fired, including the worker who threw the shoe and the two staff members who failed to report the incident.
“I’ve been with these people for three years,” the mother said. “I really thought my baby was safe with them.”
The case has sparked renewed concerns about oversight and accountability in daycare facilities, particularly those serving vulnerable children with special needs. Parents and advocates are calling for stricter monitoring and faster transparency when incidents occur, arguing that no family should have to fight to see footage involving harm to their own child.
