Ten people are dead after a woman opened fire at a high school and a nearby residence in western Canada before taking her own life, according to police.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said seven people were found dead Tuesday inside a high school in the town of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, including the suspected shooter. Authorities later discovered two additional victims at a residence believed to be connected to the attack. Another victim died while being transported to a hospital.
Police confirmed the suspect was a woman and said an earlier active shooter alert describing the individual as “female in a dress with brown hair” was accurate.
At least two other people were hospitalized with serious or life threatening injuries, while as many as 25 individuals were treated for non life threatening injuries, officials said.
Authorities have not released a motive and said the investigation remains ongoing. Police also did not immediately identify the suspect or the victims as they continue notifying families.
Law enforcement officials said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
