A Massachusetts mother accused of murdering her three children appeared in court this week as details of her alleged mental state continue to emerge.
Lindsay Clancy, 33, faces charges in the deaths of her children: Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months old. Prosecutors allege Clancy sent her husband on an errand so she could carry out the killings before attempting to paralyze herself by jumping out a window.
Clancy’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, revealed that she had been prescribed as many as 12 medications by doctors. Her husband reportedly said she was so heavily medicated that she began hearing voices in her head.
“Her husband actually went to the doctor the week before to ask for help and said you’re turning her into a zombie,” Reddington told the court. “It was just a brutal, brutal existence that they were living. Her parents were aware of this; they were trying to help out the husband as well.”
Clancy’s trial is scheduled to begin in July, and the case has drawn national attention due to the tragic deaths of the three children and the troubling circumstances surrounding Clancy’s mental health.
Authorities continue to investigate the sequence of events leading up to the deaths, including Clancy’s alleged access to the medications and whether her mental state played a role in the tragedy.
The case highlights growing concerns over the over-prescription of psychiatric medications and the devastating consequences when mental health struggles intersect with family crises.
Clancy remains in custody as the court prepares for her upcoming trial.
