Social media has been buzzing this week over Brazilian model and influencer Gabriela Moura, after a viral clip labelled her a “plus-size Victoria’s Secret Angel,” sparking widespread debate about body image and fashion standards.
The controversy began when a video of Gabriela walking the runway at New York Fashion Week in October 2025, held at Steiner Studios, racked up more than 3 million views online.
In the clip, Gabriela, who stands 5-foot-5 with measurements of 34-24-35, confidently strutted down the catwalk, prompting the post to be captioned: “Gabriela Moura – Plus Size Victoria’s Secret Angel.”
The classification immediately drew criticism from social media users, many questioning how someone of Gabriela’s proportions could be considered “plus-size.”
“One commenter asked, ‘On what planet is this a plus-size woman?’” reports noted, while another joked, “‘Is the plus size in the room with us?’”
The discussion quickly evolved beyond Gabriela herself, with users debating the fashion industry’s inconsistent messaging about body types. One social media user wrote, “And we wonder why we all have body image issues. This woman is not even remotely plus-sized,” highlighting the frustration many feel over the unrealistic or confusing standards often applied to models.
Others approached the conversation from a different angle, using Gabriela as an example of shifting perceptions around beauty and size. “I like girls a little plus-size like this,” one person commented, reflecting the idea that fashion’s definitions of “plus-size” can be more about marketing than reality.
