Robot Goes Rogue In California Restaurant, Terrified Diners Watch As Malfunctioning Machine ‘Dances Out Of Control’
87 days ago
A restaurant robot at a California branch of popular Chinese hot pot chain Haidilao has gone viral after a technical malfunction caused it to start dancing uncontrollably in the middle of the dining area.
The bizarre moment unfolded at a Bay Area location of the restaurant, which is well known for incorporating technology into its dining experience, including robot-assisted service designed to help staff deliver food and entertain customers.
According to reports, the robot suddenly began moving erratically across the restaurant floor after a technical fault, launching into what appeared to be an endless dance routine.
Video of the incident shows the machine gliding and spinning around the dining area while confused customers watch the unexpected performance. Some diners can be seen pulling out their phones to film as the robot continues moving without stopping.
At one point, the machine appears to ignore attempts to shut it down, continuing its energetic movements as staff rush to address the situation.
Eventually, three employees stepped in to control the malfunctioning device. The staff members carefully restrained the robot and worked together to stop its movements, preventing any possible accidents in the crowded restaurant.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the unusual episode.
The incident has nevertheless raised questions about the reliability of service robots in busy public environments, particularly as more restaurants and businesses experiment with automated technology to assist staff.
Haidilao has built a global reputation for its high tech dining experience, often incorporating robotic servers, automated kitchens and other digital systems to create a distinctive atmosphere for guests.
However, the viral clip has served as a reminder that even advanced technology can behave unpredictably when something goes wrong.
The company has not yet issued a detailed public statement about the malfunction.
Meanwhile, the footage continues to circulate online, with many viewers amused by the spectacle of a restaurant robot that, for a brief moment, could not stop dancing.
