This is the kind of story that restores your faith in humanity for at least a solid 24 hours.
A 78-year-old DoorDash driver, Richard Pulley, just got handed a check for $965,868 after the internet decided, “Yeah, this guy deserves a win,” and honestly… they nailed it.
Pulley originally went viral after being caught on a Ring doorbell camera making deliveries, just grinding it out at 78 years old like an absolute machine. Not complaining, not asking for anything, just out there doing the job.
And the internet saw it and basically said, “Not on our watch.”
Fast forward, and there’s a new Ring clip, except this time instead of dropping off food, Pulley is the one getting handed a check that’s going to completely change his life.
We’re talking just shy of a million dollars. Life-changing doesn’t even begin to cover it.
But here’s where it gets even better, because instead of immediately saying “I’m retiring, see ya,” Pulley’s reaction is basically:
“Yeah this is great… but I’ll be back to work soon.”
Legend.
He said the past few days have actually been harder than usual because people keep stopping him for pictures, which is hilarious. Imagine trying to complete a DoorDash run and turning into a full-blown celebrity mid-shift.
“The last couple of shifts have worked out hard because people stop and take pictures with me and all sorts of things,” he said.
That’s a sentence I never thought I’d hear from a DoorDash driver, but here we are.
Even with nearly a million dollars now in the bank, Pulley made it clear he’s not done working.
“They’ve set my wife and I up so that we can live a more comfortable life, but after a week or two of this and it cools down, we’ll get back to work because I feel good being useful.”
That right there is why the guy went viral in the first place.
It’s not just about the money, it’s about the mindset. Dude just genuinely likes being out there, staying active, doing his thing. Meanwhile, most of us would’ve retired before the ink dried on that check.
End of the day, this is the internet at its best. No arguing, no nonsense, just people seeing someone who deserved a break and actually making it happen.
And if you see Richard Pulley pulling up with your order in a couple weeks… tip him anyway. He’s earned it.
