Hero Kite Surfer Saves Father And Young Daughter Swept Out To Sea After Spotting Them Drifting Miles From The Shore

This is the remarkable moment a quick thinking kite surfer spotted a father and his young daughter drifting far out at sea and helped keep them alive until rescuers arrived.

Helmet camera footage shows the dramatic rescue unfolding off the coast of Epanomi in the Aegean Sea, where strong currents had pulled the pair dangerously far from shore.

The two, a Hungarian father and his 10 year old daughter, were left stranded in open water, struggling to stay afloat as conditions worsened.

But help came from an unexpected source.

Anastasios Garipis, a 21 year old Greek athlete, was out kite surfing when he noticed the pair drifting in the distance.

Realizing they were in serious trouble, he immediately diverted course and headed toward them.

The footage shows Garipis reaching the exhausted swimmers and using his board to help stabilize them in the water, giving them something to hold onto as they fought to stay above the surface.

With no immediate rescue vessel in sight, the young athlete remained with them in the open sea, carefully balancing all three as waves moved beneath them.

Moments later, additional help arrived.

A fishing boat and coast guard teams were able to reach the group and bring them safely back to shore, ending what could have been a tragic ordeal.
