A viral video out of Seoul shows an actor portraying Jesus being lifted sky high by a crane during an Ascension reenactment at Gwanghwamun Square, and when I say high, I mean unreasonably high. Like, at some point you stop thinking “this is symbolic” and start thinking “we might need air traffic control involved.”
The whole thing was part of a massive Easter event organized by the United Christian Churches of Korea and CTS Christian TV, which reportedly drew over 8,000 participants for performances, worship, and biblical reenactments. So this wasn’t some random backyard production, this was a full scale operation with serious production value.
And to be fair, they absolutely committed to the bit.
The crane just keeps going. And going. And going. To the point where the actor is basically hovering above the entire crowd like he’s about to unlock a new level. You can almost imagine the guy up there thinking, “Alright… any second now we’re gonna stop, right?” Nope. Still ascending.
At one point, you half expect someone from NASA to radio in like, “Uh… we’re picking something up on the radar,” while the crew aboard Artemis II looks out the window, wondering why Jesus is suddenly cruising past their flight path.
Look, you’ve got to respect the dedication. If you’re going to reenact the Ascension, you might as well go all in. None of this half-measure stuff where he goes up ten feet and calls it a day. Seoul said we’re doing this properly and then just sent the man into low orbit.
