A dramatic police confrontation unfolded in downtown San Diego after officers released a K9 unit on a man accused of stabbing a parking attendant in the head with a wooden cane during a violent altercation in a parking lot.
The suspect, identified by authorities as Lathapoun Keovongsa, is alleged to have attacked a parking attendant twice in the head with a wooden cane during an incident that quickly escalated into chaos in the busy downtown area.
The victim was rushed to hospital following the attack and is reported to be in a non-life-threatening condition.
According to reports, officers located Keovongsa shortly after the incident still armed with what is described as a six-foot wooden cane. Video from the scene shows a tense standoff as multiple officers arrive with weapons drawn while the suspect moves near a tree and storefront, holding the long object as a makeshift weapon.
As the situation intensified, police deployed non-lethal rounds before releasing a K9 unit to subdue the suspect. The footage shows the dog engaging the man as officers move in to bring him under control in a rapidly escalating scene that unfolded in full view of bystanders.
