Disturbing new footage has revealed the tense moments before a longtime Costco employee was allegedly shot dead after confronting an armed man attempting to enter the store in Strongsville, Ohio.
Randy Corrigan, 61, was working at the Costco location on Saturday when he reportedly tried to stop 22-year-old Christian Bryant from bringing a firearm into the store, according to police and court documents.
Authorities say Bryant, a truck driver from Fort Worth, Texas, was seen approaching the entrance with what witnesses described as a weapon featuring a drum magazine protruding from his pocket.
The newly surfaced video reportedly captures the moments leading up to the deadly confrontation as shoppers moved in and out of the busy warehouse store.
According to investigators, Corrigan confronted Bryant near the entrance after noticing the weapon.
Witnesses told police that Bryant then pulled out a handgun while Corrigan allegedly responded by pulling a pocket knife during the confrontation.
Police say Bryant opened fire, striking Corrigan and knocking him to the ground before allegedly continuing to shoot several more times as horrified shoppers looked on.
Corrigan was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries.
The shocking killing has stunned the local community, with many describing Corrigan as a hardworking employee simply trying to protect customers and enforce store safety rules.
Court records indicate Bryant was arrested following the shooting and is now facing serious charges connected to the incident.
The case has also reignited debate surrounding firearms in public spaces and the dangers faced by retail workers confronted with volatile situations.
Strongsville police have not yet released additional details about what led Bryant to allegedly arrive at the store armed, nor whether he had any prior connection to the area.
Meanwhile, grieving coworkers and customers have begun leaving flowers and tributes for Corrigan outside the store entrance where the deadly encounter unfolded.
The newly released footage has spread rapidly online, with many viewers describing the incident as both horrifying and deeply tragic — particularly given that Corrigan appeared to be attempting to stop an armed individual from entering a crowded public store packed with weekend shoppers.
The investigation remains ongoing.
