Dramatic bodycam footage released by the San Diego Police Department shows the terrifying moment officers confronted a woman allegedly stabbing a man with a ballpoint pen before she continued advancing toward police even after being shot multiple times.
The disturbing incident unfolded on April 15 in the East Village area of San Diego, near 16th Street and Island Avenue, according to authorities.
Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Denise Guzman.
Officials say officers responded to reports of a violent assault in progress and arrived to find Guzman allegedly attacking a man with a ballpoint pen, repeatedly stabbing him as officers rushed into the chaotic scene.
The newly released footage captures officers shouting repeated commands for Guzman to drop the weapon as they attempted to gain control of the situation.
But according to police, Guzman refused to comply.
The bodycam video allegedly shows Guzman continuing to advance toward officers while still holding the pen, prompting Officer Grijalva to open fire. Authorities say multiple rounds were discharged, with Guzman reportedly struck at least twice in the chest.
What shocked many viewers online, however, was what happened next.
Despite sustaining the gunshot wounds, Guzman allegedly remained on her feet and continued moving toward officers before police ultimately deployed tasers multiple times to finally bring her to the ground.
