Shocking CCTV footage has captured the terrifying moment a young woman suddenly plunged into an open sewer after a concrete manhole cover collapsed beneath her while she was walking her dog at night in Brazil.
The incident took place on May 17 in Cuiabá and left the 21 year old woman with multiple injuries, including three broken teeth, an ankle sprain, and several wounds across her body.
The dramatic surveillance video, recorded in low resolution night vision, shows the woman calmly walking along the sidewalk with her dog moments before disaster strikes.
Without warning, the concrete cover beneath her feet suddenly gives way.
The footage shows the woman instantly disappearing into the sewer below with almost no time to react as debris collapses around her. Her dog can then be seen lingering near the opening, appearing startled and confused while nearby bystanders rush toward the scene to help.
Witnesses quickly gathered around the exposed sewer as efforts began to pull the woman to safety.
Despite the frightening fall, local reports said the victim survived the incident but suffered painful injuries, including broken teeth and a sprained ankle.
Authorities later responded by signaling off the hazardous area and installing a replacement cover over the sewer opening.
