Video captured from a parade float on Catalpa Drive in LaPlace shows the moment the festive atmosphere, complete with floats, bead-throwing spectators, and families lining the street, descended into violence.
Witnesses described seeing individuals throwing punches at one another before the melee spilled toward sheriff’s deputies’ vehicles, with at least one chair reportedly hurled in the chaos.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded quickly, pursuing suspects who attempted to flee the scene. Authorities later arrested multiple individuals involved in the disturbance. At least one man faces charges, including battery on a police officer, after allegedly punching a deputy during the incident.
