A Florida father who carried out a barbaric triple attack on his own young family, shooting his ex-girlfriend, hatcheting their disabled nine-year-old daughter to death, and stabbing and then burning his eight-year-old son alive, has been handed multiple life sentences after a jury spared him from execution.
Ronnie O'Neal III, 37, unleashed unimaginable horror on his family in Riverview, Florida, in March 2018, in a frenzied attack that shocked even hardened detectives and left a judge describing it as one of the worst cases she had ever seen.
The nightmare began when O'Neal stormed the home and shot dead his ex-partner, Kenyatta Barron, 33, before beating her. He then turned his fury on their children.
Little Ron’Niveya O'Neal, nine, who suffered from cerebral palsy and was confined to a wheelchair, was brutally hacked to death with a hatchet. Her brother, Ronnie O'Neal IV, then just eight, was repeatedly stabbed before his own father doused him in accelerant, set him on fire and torched the family home in a bid to destroy all evidence.
Miraculously, young Ronnie survived his catastrophic injuries and was pulled from the blazing house by heroic first responders. The brave boy later took the stand to testify against his father in a dramatic 2021 trial – with the killer choosing to represent himself in court.
O'Neal was found guilty and sentenced to three consecutive life terms without parole, plus an additional 90 years. Yet despite the sheer savagery of the crimes, jurors rejected the death penalty.
In chilling courtroom footage from the sentencing, O'Neal sits impassively as the judge delivers her verdict, displaying not a flicker of remorse or emotion for the family he destroyed.
The disturbing video, widely shared on X has reignited fury over the outcome, with many demanding to know why such a monster was spared the ultimate punishment.
