Shocking Ring camera footage shows Faith Bennett, who claimed to be a nursing student heading to Texas Woman’s University, fast asleep on the job as the toddler wandered unsupervised and took a nasty spill.
The terrifying incident unfolded near The Colony, Texas, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on what was supposed to be the first day of care for a one-year-old girl.
The mom, who had been a stay-at-home parent for about a year, decided to hire help and return to work. She vetted the sitter thoroughly, conducted an interview, ran a background check that came back clean, and felt confident because the 19-year-old presented herself as a responsible nursing student.
While the mother monitored the home via her Ring security camera from work, she watched in horror as events spiraled.
Footage shows the babysitter, identified as Faith Bennett, initially interacting with the toddler by handing her books and toys to keep her occupied. But then Bennett got comfortable on a large, round, white couch, covered herself with a blanket, and deliberately drifted off to sleep.
The one-year-old was left to wander the house alone. She eventually made her way upstairs, and tumbled down the full flight of stairs in a heart-stopping fall captured on camera. The child hit the bottom, got right back up, and continued moving around.
The mother immediately tried to wake the sitter by blasting alarms and sounds through the Ring camera’s speaker system multiple times. There was zero response. The babysitter remained dead to the world.
Panicked, the mom left work and raced home. She called the police because she couldn’t rouse Bennett remotely. Officers arrived and banged on the door. Only then did the sitter finally wake up.
Bodycam-style audio from the scene shows police confronting the groggy young woman. She appeared disoriented, apologized, and seemed unaware of the chaos that had unfolded on her watch.
Despite everything, the fall, the complete lack of supervision, and the police intervention, Faith Bennett reportedly had the audacity to demand full payment for the full 10-hour day.
The mom shared the Ring camera footage on TikTok, where it quickly exploded across social media.
“You can tell when someone intentionally falls asleep but she cover herself with a blanket. She got comfy so she wanted to fall asleep, and I guess she ignored the fact that my baby was still wandering around,” the mother wrote in text overlaid on the video.
She added that while she has safety gates at home, the unusual layout of the stairs made it difficult to fully secure the area in a way that would have prevented the incident without constant supervision, something she had always provided herself until hiring help.
The baby is okay and suffered no serious injuries, according to multiple people spreading awareness about the incident. But the close call has parents in the Denton and TWU area furious.
The viral video has sparked a broader debate about vetting babysitters, the limits of background checks, and the risks of leaving young children with strangers, even for just one day.
For now, Faith Bennett’s name is circulating widely in Texas parenting circles as someone to avoid at all costs. The mom, meanwhile, is dealing with the aftermath and sharing her story to warn others.
One thing’s clear from the footage: this could have ended far worse.
