A group of plus-sized women thought they’d conquer Yosemite National Park’s famous Mist Trail.
It did not go according to plan.
In a viral video, the women are seen at the trailhead in full hiking gear, smiling, posing, and looking ready to take on one of the park’s most scenic (and strenuous) routes.
Spoiler: the trail won.
One hiker, identified as Grace, made it as far as Clark’s Point before heat exhaustion and signs of heatstroke forced Search and Rescue to call in a helicopter.
The dramatic rescue footage shows Grace being hoisted into the sky, dangling from a cable beneath the chopper as it carries her to safety.
The Mist Trail isn’t exactly a casual stroll. It features steep granite steps, slippery conditions from the mist off Vernal Fall, and a serious elevation gain that can humble even experienced hikers when the heat kicks in.
Plenty of nine-year-olds have successfully completed the trail. The difference? They usually show up in decent shape.
The video quickly became a master class in “fuck around and find out,” complete with the perfect caption and the kind of helicopter exit that turns a hike into a headline.
Mother Nature doesn’t do safe spaces, and she definitely doesn’t care how many likes your body-positivity post got.
