A brazen thief was caught on camera scaling the counter at a Church’s Chicken restaurant and helping herself to a box of fried chicken, using the store’s own tongs, before struggling to escape with her loot.
The pathetic footage shows a heavyset woman in a pink off-the-shoulder top, jeans and a pink headwrap hoisting herself over the counter at the fast-food joint. With no employees in sight, she casually grabs pieces of chicken from the warmer trays and loads them into a yellow takeout box.
Things get even more ridiculous as she tries to climb back over. She nearly knocks over a monitor, slides awkwardly down the counter and eventually waddles away carrying the stolen chicken in a black plastic crate.
The original post summed up the public’s reaction perfectly: “Imagine being a grown adult and climbing behind a restaurant counter to steal chicken. Whatever happened to shame?”
Some pointed to the bigger picture: soft-on-crime policies and a total breakdown of basic social norms that used to keep people from pulling stunts like this in broad daylight.
The video comes as retail theft and brazen, low-level crimes continue to plague cities across the country. Thieves increasingly act like there are zero consequences, and in many cases, they’re right.
No word yet on whether police have identified the woman or if Church’s Chicken plans to press charges. For now, the clip is serving as the latest example of just how far some people will go for a free meal, and how little shame remains in parts of society.
