The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. near Bolivar in Adelaide’s northern suburbs. A heavy goods vehicle carrying concrete segments for the T2D infrastructure project was traveling southbound when vehicles merged abruptly into its lane ahead. The sudden maneuver forced the truck driver to brake or adjust, causing the unsecured load to shift violently.
Video from the scene shows the slabs tumbling off the trailer, crashing onto the roadway in a cloud of dust and debris before striking three parked cars on the hard shoulder. The impact was powerful enough to damage the vehicles severely, yet remarkably, no one was killed.
South Australia Police described the outcome as extraordinary. Three pedestrians and the truck driver avoided serious injury. One person was transported to the hospital with a suspected broken arm, while two others sustained minor injuries. Officers expressed amazement that everyone survived the high-impact collision.
“The pedestrians are lucky to be alive,” a police spokesperson said. SAPOL released the footage as part of their investigation into the load-securing failure.
The truck involved was operated by a private contractor for the T2D Project. In response, concrete deliveries for the project have been suspended pending a full safety review by the Heavy Vehicle Enforcement Unit.
