MIAMI — If you thought your lunch break couldn't get any more unhinged, welcome to PETA's latest masterpiece: a half-naked mannequin dangling upside down in fake blood outside a Raising Cane's, because nothing says "save the chickens" like turning a sidewalk into a low-budget horror flick.
The animal-rights zealots showed up to the Coral Gables grand opening in February like they were auditioning for a slasher reboot. One activist in a skin-tight bodysuit got trussed up by the ankles, throat "slit," guts spilling everywhere, all for the crime of... people enjoying chicken fingers.
Signs screamed "CHICKEN SHACKLED AND BLED OUT. PLEASE, TRY VEGAN" and "Raising Cane's: NO LOVE, JUST CRUELTY." Real subtle, guys. Nothing says compassion like traumatizing families trying to grab a quick box combo.
While the PETA crew knelt dramatically in their black shirts, pretending the world was ending over poultry, the real show was happening around them. Bystanders outside were cracking up, phones out, pointing and laughing at the circus. One dude in a light-blue tee and ridiculous red sunglasses pumped his fists as he'd just won the lottery, grinning ear-to-ear inside the joint next to a giant chicken mascot. Anti-Social Social Club kids in ironic T-shirts hovered nearby, clearly more interested in the sauce than the sermon. Even a little dog rocking a Cane's trucker hat seemed unimpressed by the activism.
Look, we get it, factory farming ain't pretty. But when your big protest move is a fake dead lady swinging like yesterday's rotisserie, maybe it's time to admit you've lost the plot. And as one X user perfectly put it while sharing the clip: "Wonder how they feel about abortion." Crickets from the vegan warriors on that one, naturally.
By the end of the stunt, the only thing getting slaughtered was PETA's dignity, and probably a few appetites for anyone who caught the show before their meal. Cane's reported record lines anyway. Turns out Miami loves its chicken fingers more than performative gore.
Pass the sauce. And maybe a reality check.
