MARIETTA, Ga. – In a heart-stopping moment captured on surveillance video, a quick-thinking Georgia mother used a gas pump hose as a weapon to protect her two young children from a shirtless man police say tried to abduct them in the dead of night.

The terrifying encounter unfolded just after midnight on July 23 at a Shell station on Delk Road in Marietta, Cobb County, according to authorities and exclusive security footage obtained by local outlets. The mother was fueling her silver sedan when 30-year-old Jerahn Tucker, an aspiring SoundCloud rapper, approached the vehicle.

Video shows Tucker, who was not wearing a shirt or shoes, circling the car and peering inside. One of the children opens a door and bolts out, prompting Tucker to chase the youngster around the vehicle. The mother springs into action, grabbing the gas pump hose and swinging it to keep the suspect at bay while positioning herself between him and her kids.

At one point, Tucker opens the back door in an apparent attempt to reach the second child still inside the car. The mother continues to confront him with the hose as the first child races back to safety. Two bystanders then rush in to help push the suspect away, allowing the family to secure the vehicle.

Police say Tucker claimed he had a gun during the confrontation. He fled the scene in a vehicle but was quickly tracked down nearby by Marietta police with assistance from Cobb County officers. He was arrested without a shirt or shoes. A THC vape was found in his car.

Tucker now faces charges including attempted kidnapping, simple assault, and possession of a THC vape. He remains in custody. The gas station manager told police he had previously kicked Tucker off the property multiple times.

Marietta Police Department Public Information Officer Charles McPhilamy praised the mother’s composure. “The actions of the mother and everyone on the scene, their ability to remain calm under pressure and push him away, get him away from the children, get a hold of us so that we can get to the area allowed us to hold this individual accountable,” McPhilamy said.

He added that the motive remains unclear: “The million-dollar question everyone watching is going to ask: Why did this happen? Why did this occur? And we don’t know those answers.”

The dramatic video, which has circulated widely, shows the full sequence of the chase around the car under the station’s lights, the mother’s defensive stance with the hose, and Tucker’s eventual retreat before his arrest. Authorities have not released the mother’s identity.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can strike in everyday places and the power of a parent’s instinct to protect their children at all costs. Police continue to investigate.
