TWIN FALLS, Idaho – Terrifying video captured the moment a gunman armed with what appears to be an AR-style rifle stalked the parking lot of a brand-new In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, on Saturday afternoon, opening fire and sparking mass panic as customers fled for their lives.
The shocking footage, widely shared online including by accounts monitoring weapons and conflict, shows the suspect in dark clothing moving between vehicles near the restaurant’s drive-thru and parking area before firing. In one sequence, he approaches cars, including Tesla vehicles, while holding the long gun. Witnesses described pure chaos as gunfire erupted around 2:30 p.m. local time at the location on Blue Lakes Boulevard North, which had opened to eager customers just one week earlier.
Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks confirmed the suspected shooter is dead and that the immediate threat to the community is over. “It was a very chaotic scene,” Hicks said during a news conference. Authorities reported at least three people killed and two injured, though officials cautioned the numbers could rise as next-of-kin notifications continue and more details emerge from the hospital. Eyewitness Lane Koehn, 34, was stopped at a nearby stoplight when he saw the gunman emerge from the drive-thru area carrying the rifle. A man with a pistol then opened fire on the suspect, according to Koehn’s account to the Associated Press. Koehn also described seeing an In-N-Out employee drag a wounded coworker, who had been shot in the chest, across the parking lot to safety while they waited for paramedics.
