Mexican Cops Gather Under A Jilted Woman Threatening To Jump From Her Second Story Home, When She Does, They Step Aside, Allowing Her To Crash On Concrete
A 24-year-old woman in Metepec, State of Mexico, climbed onto the roof of her two-story house Friday and jumped after a romantic breakup, while a crowd of state and municipal cops stood right below and, according to the viral video, basically got out of the way.
The dramatic scene unfolded July 31 in the Izcalli Cuauhtémoc V neighborhood. Neighbors called 911 after spotting the woman on the azotea in the middle of what authorities later called a “nervous crisis.” Her partner had just ended things, and she was threatening to jump.
Cops, firefighters, Protección Civil, and Cruz Roja paramedics rolled up fast. Officers tried talking her down for several minutes. It didn’t work. She turned her back to them and leaped from the roughly 16-foot roof.
What happened next is what has social media raging. The widely shared video shows the woman in a blue top and patterned pants standing on the edge. A bunch of uniformed officers in dark jackets marked “Policía Estatal” are clustered on the street below near a parked car with a white sheet or tarp draped over it. As she jumps, several of the cops appear to shift or step aside rather than form a human net or hold the sheet tight. She hits the concrete hard.
Emergency crews then swarm. Firefighters and Red Cross medics drop to their knees around her as she lies on the pavement. A stretcher is wheeled in. She’s stabilized on the spot and rushed to a hospital. Officials later said she survived with injuries and that the officers positioned below had “cushioned” or “caught” the fall. The footage tells a different story to anyone watching it: she smacked the ground while the guys in uniform moved.
Local reports confirm the basics, the breakup, the crisis, the jump backwards, the response team that included municipal police, state cops, and gender-unit personnel. The municipal government praised the intervention for “safeguarding her integrity.” But the clip that went viral doesn’t look like a textbook save. Commenters piled on immediately, asking how a pack of trained officers standing right there let her eat pavement.
She’s receiving medical care. No further public updates on her condition have been released. The video, however, keeps circulating, a raw reminder of how thin the line can be between a rescue and a near-miss when the people supposed to catch you decide to step aside instead.
