There’s a special kind of guy who shows up to a public lake dressed like he just walked out of the Bass Pro clearance rack and immediately decides the entire shoreline belongs to him. That guy made a guest appearance this weekend, and the internet is having a field day.
The clip shows a first-person view from a fisherman standing on a rocky bank. A middle-aged dude in a green North Shore Marina hoodie, ball cap, and sunglasses comes marching over like he owns the place. He starts gesturing and talking shit, apparently telling the young guys they’re “too close” to his group. His group, for the record, is so far down the bank you can barely tell they’re there.
The cameraman keeps fishing and keeps the phone rolling while the self-appointed lake sheriff paces around, talks with his hands, and generally acts like he just discovered these kids were stealing oxygen. Eventually he wanders off toward some other young people fishing nearby, still looking like he’s got something important to say that nobody asked for.
Social media did what social media does best. Replies immediately labeled him a classic “Bass Pro Spec Ops” type and a full-blown “Darren.” One observer pointed out the guy wasn’t even in a strong position on the rocks and that one solid Sparta kick would send him swimming. Others noted the pure comedy of a grown man picking a fight with teenagers over water that doesn’t belong to him.
Public lakes and reservoirs exist so people can actually use them. Casting a line next to someone else isn’t a federal crime. Showing up in your marina merch and deciding you’re the shoreline police is just sad. The kids in the video handled it the right way: kept fishing, kept recording, and let the guy make a fool of himself.
Somewhere out there, a man in a North Shore Marina hoodie is probably still telling the story differently. The video tells it straight. And a whole lot of people are wishing they’d been the ones holding the rod when he walked up.
