A heart-stopping video has emerged showing an astonishingly tough cow surviving a near-miss with a speeding passenger train in India – only to stroll away completely unfazed, as though the whole drama was nothing more than a minor inconvenience.
The clip, filmed at a level crossing in what appears to be rural India, captures the moment a large spotted cow stands calmly beside the lowered barrier as a blue locomotive and its long string of carriages hurtle past mere inches away
.Instead of being flung into the air or crushed under the wheels, the animal takes a series of heavy knocks from the side of the moving train. Its body is visibly jolted and shoved sideways by the force of the metal carriages racing by at speed. Yet moments later, the remarkable beast simply rights itself, shakes it off, and begins walking across the road as if it had been gently nudged by a passing cyclist.
Onlookers on motorbikes and standing nearby can only watch in stunned silence as the cow emerges from the encounter still on all four legs and seemingly none the worse for wear. One man even appears to reach toward the animal from the train itself as the carriages thunder past.
The footage has left viewers worldwide open-mouthed at the sheer resilience of the animal. ‘Dinner tenderizing itself,’ one social media poster quipped alongside the video, capturing the dark humour of the moment while highlighting just how extraordinary the cow’s survival was.
Cattle are a common sight near railway tracks across India, where sacred cows often roam freely. Collisions between trains and livestock are tragically frequent and usually end in disaster for the animal. This particular cow, however, has rewritten the script.
Experts and everyday observers alike have marvelled at the creature’s toughness. Cows may look placid and bulky, but their solid frames, low centre of gravity and surprisingly robust bone structure can apparently absorb impacts that would floor most other animals, or humans.
