Terrifying footage has emerged of the moment a high-pressure popcorn machine detonated like a battlefield weapon at a Chinese kindergarten – showering dozens of tiny tots in a cloud of steaming grain and smoke.

The jaw-dropping clip, now going viral, shows a street vendor calmly operating the ancient metal cannon in a colourful playground packed with parents and children.

Then all hell breaks loose.

With a deafening bang that would make a howitzer blush, the sealed chamber rips open. The collection bag is obliterated. A massive white plume of steam and puffed rice erupts skyward. The vendor is knocked clean off his feet. Local reports, citing the Qianjiang Evening News, say the pressure gauge had failed – turning a routine snack demonstration into an uncontrolled explosion at the Luoyang kindergarten in Henan province sometime in late 2024.
