Shocking footage has emerged of the terrifying moment a playful dog was sent flying into a dramatic freeze by a sudden explosion – only for the plucky pooch to bounce back as if nothing had happened.
In the viral clip, which has once again taken the internet by storm years after it was first filmed, adorable Jack Russell terrier Frodo can be seen joyfully chasing and rolling a large plastic beer keg around a dusty car park in Russia.
The energetic pup, who had a well-known habit of treating empty plastic containers as his favourite toys, was having the time of his life until disaster struck in the most spectacular fashion.
Without warning, the oversized plastic keg – left with residual beer that had continued fermenting in the heat – ruptured with an almighty bang. The force of the blast was so powerful it set off nearby car alarms and sent Frodo crumpling to the ground in a rigid, frozen pose that left viewers convinced the worst had happened.
Many who first watched the heart-stopping scene feared the little dog had been seriously injured or even killed by the shockwave. He lay completely still for several agonising minutes, looking for all the world like a fainting goat.
But in a miraculous turn, after around five minutes, the resilient terrier began to stir, scrambled back to his feet and soon resumed his usual lively antics – proving he was made of tougher stuff than anyone imagined.
The dramatic incident, captured near the LaBEERint brewery in Naro-Fominsk back in 2019, was filmed by the brewery’s founder. Frodo was promptly taken to a vet for a check-up and given the all-clear, with only mild effects from the sudden fright.
The clip quickly exploded across the Russian internet, turning the unflappable Jack Russell into a full-blown meme. Images of Frodo mid-freeze, juxtaposed with everything from other animals to everyday objects, flooded social media for years.
In a touching and slightly cheeky tribute, the craft brewery behind the infamous keg later released a special Russian Imperial Stout in the dog’s honour. Named Choko Frodo (or Choco Frodo), the 9.5% ABV chocolate-tinged brew celebrated the unlikely star who survived a very close encounter with one of their containers.
Though the limited-edition beer is no longer in production, Frodo’s legend lives on. The original video has recently resurfaced and gone viral all over again, charming a new generation of viewers with the timeless tale of a dog who simply refused to stay down.
From near-disaster to internet immortality, and his very own beer, Frodo the Jack Russell remains proof that sometimes the best stories come with a bang.
