A harrowing video has left viewers worldwide gasping in horror after capturing dozens of people – including young children – casually risking their lives in a ferocious sea.

The footage, which has gone viral after being shared by tech writer Rahul Srinivas, shows chaotic scenes at a busy Indian beach where powerful waves repeatedly smash into the shore, dragging people under and tossing them like ragdolls.

In one stomach-churning sequence, a man in a bright yellow shirt is seen thrashing helplessly as a huge wall of white water engulfs him. Moments later, groups of men desperately try to haul others to safety while more bathers continue wading out as if nothing is wrong.

Toddlers and young children, some no older than four or five, can be seen standing or sitting right at the water’s edge while massive waves crash just metres away. In one particularly disturbing shot, a man holds a small child on his lap as the sea surges towards them, treating the dangerous shoreline like a peaceful garden.

“This video is painful to watch,” wrote Srinivas, who posted the clip. “What’s with us Indians and our total lack of survival skills? I think there is something fundamentally wrong in the way our brains are wired.”

The video, filmed under grey skies with buildings and a sea wall visible in the background, shows wave after wave battering the beach. People are repeatedly knocked off their feet, some disappear under the foam, while others simply stand and laugh or continue playing in the water.

At one point, a group of men struggle to pull a person clear as the next wave barrels in. Elsewhere, entire families remain perilously close to the breaking surf, seemingly oblivious to the danger.

Critics online have expressed disbelief at the scenes. One commenter noted the complete absence of any sense of beach safety or appropriate clothing, with many bathers fully clothed in everyday outfits rather than swimwear.
