Mobility Scooter Madam Tries To Mow Down Mom, Then Leaps Off And Gives Chase Like A Yorkshire Benny Hill

It began as a row at Dewsbury Market. It ended as the most British pursuit since a supermarket trolley race: a woman on a mobility scooter apparently trying to run down another shopper walking with her young son, then abandoning the machine altogether and haring after her on foot.

The clip, first posted with the dry caption “Where in England is this?”, has now been watched more than 4.5 million times. A longer version circulating later makes the sequence painfully clear. A mother and boy in a yellow football shirt hurry between the stalls. Behind them, a woman on a bright blue mobility scooter closes in, shouting, weaving and — to the horror and delight of everyone filming, appearing to use the thing as a battering ram.

When the scooter will no longer do the job, she simply gets off it.

Yes. Gets off it.

The footage has the slapstick rhythm of a silent comedy and the manners of a Friday-night pub fight. The rider steers through the covered walkways, past shuttered pink stalls and fruit crates, while bystanders freeze like extras who have wandered onto the wrong set. A can lies on its side beside the scooter, pale liquid pooling on the stones. Shoppers film. A woman in a hijab turns to watch. Children stare.

Then the punchline: the scooter is dumped. The chase continues on two working legs, into the market proper, after the woman who had been walking with her son. What started as an argument becomes a pursuit. What started as a mobility aid becomes, in the eyes of half the internet, Exhibit A.

Britain has seen mobility scooters used for shopping, flooding, romance and the occasional police chase. Rarely has one been pressed into service as a getaway car, a weapon and then — when the plot demanded it — a piece of abandoned scenery.

Yakety Sax was not on the soundtrack. It might as well have been.
