A Memphis driver is lucky to be alive after a massive metal pole flew off a tractor-trailer and punched straight through her black SUV on Interstate 55 in a scene ripped from a Final Destination movie.
The freak accident unfolded Friday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. at the I-55/Third Street interchange. A large pipe or pole from a semi-truck’s load came loose, struck another vehicle, and then slammed into the SUV, ripping through the windshield and roof before lodging deep inside the cabin.
Airbags exploded. Fluid leaked across the highway. Traffic ground to a halt.
Yet the woman behind the wheel survived.
Viral video captured the aftermath: the mangled SUV sitting on the roadway with the long metal object jutting out of the front like a spear. The driver, wearing a pink shirt, sat on the concrete barrier nearby, shaken but conscious as bystanders rushed to help her.
She was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition, according to Memphis Police.
The clip exploded on X over the weekend, with users calling it a “miracle” and “God thing.” One commenter noted it looked like something out of a horror film.
Police say the crash remains under investigation. It is unclear whether the truck driver will face charges.
Interstate 55 was partially blocked for a time, but lanes have since reopened.
The woman has not been publicly identified. Her survival, with the pole having torn through the passenger compartment, has left many stunned.
