A video circulating on social media Tuesday has once again put a spotlight on illegal immigration, workplace enforcement, and the risks of hiring outside the law.
Posted on X, the footage shows Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arriving at a residential property where workers are actively engaged on scaffolding and ladders performing exterior work on a house. One individual appears positioned higher up on the structure, with on-screen text overlay noting a “poor guy hiding.”
“Another woman allegedly hired scaffolding workers, then called ICE on them to avoid paying after the job was done,” the post reads.
The clip is from an incident that first went viral in March 2026 in Cambridge, Maryland.
The footage captures a tense scene at the job site. Agents in tactical-style vests move through the property as workers are directed down from their elevated positions. Roofing materials and debris are visible on the ground. Vehicles are parked nearby, and bystanders, including a woman in the area, can be seen reacting to the operation.
According to reports from the time, ICE conducted a targeted enforcement operation on March 23 at a home on Bayly Road in Cambridge. Six Guatemalan nationals working on a roofing project were detained.
Social media claims alleged the crew had nearly finished the job and was owed around $10,000 when agents arrived. Some posts claimed a woman associated with the property contacted authorities specifically to avoid making the payment.
The woman, identified in reports as Karen Trevino, has denied calling ICE. She stated that the property belongs to her father and that the workers were subcontractors brought in by a local roofing company. ICE has maintained that the operation was pre-planned and not based on a tip from anyone at the residence.
No charges have been filed against her in connection with the allegations, and court records do not show an arrest or extortion-related case.
Incidents like this highlight the problems created when employers turn to illegal labor for construction and home improvement projects. American workers and legitimate contractors often lose out on jobs when businesses cut corners by hiring people in the country illegally.ICE continues to carry out targeted operations to locate and remove individuals unlawfully present in the United States, actions that are essential for upholding the rule of law and protecting American jobs and wages.
