A Joliet man hired a crew to put up a pricey wooden fence, allegedly refused to pay when the job was done, and ended up with nothing but a backyard full of loose boards and a viral video. Then the homeowner wouldn’t cut the check. Diaz later wrote that the guy may have figured he could dodge the bill by threatening immigration enforcement.
“Maybe he thought he could call ICE on us or we’re immigrants,” Diaz posted after the confrontation.
In the video, he screams at them to get off his property, threatens to call police, and tells them a court date is coming. The workers keep going anyway. One can be heard saying it wasn’t what they wanted to do. Diaz also claimed the homeowner snatched his chainsaw during the dust-up and ducked inside with it.
The clip, first posted on Diaz’s Instagram and then blasted across X, shows the crew working fast: posts yanked, panels hauled off, a brand-new privacy fence reduced to lumber in minutes. Online, the reaction was instant and brutal. Commenters called it karma. Others said it was a contractor nightmare that belongs in small-claims court, not a backyard demolition.
The homeowner has not been publicly named and has not commented.
The lesson, at least according to the internet: if you don’t pay for the fence, don’t expect to keep the fence.
