Rising Chicago drill star Bloodhound Q50 was sitting behind the wheel of his white Tesla when six gunmen in two cars opened fire at a Fuller Park BP station, killing the 22-year-old in a hail of more than 50 rounds just before 4 a.m. Sunday.
Mikquale T. Cooper, known on records and the streets as Bloodhound Q50, was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit in the chest and shoulder. A 29-year-old woman who had been with him left the car shortly before the attack. No one is in custody.
Outside cameras pick up the white Tesla parked among other vehicles. A figure in dark clothing appears near the car as muzzle flashes light the lot. Police say occupants of a black Infiniti and a silver Honda pulled up, piled out, and fired before fleeing south on Wentworth Avenue. Four of the shooters wore all black; others were seen in a green hoodie with a football design and a blue hoodie.
The Tesla was left riddled. Nearby Subway windows were also shot out. A gun was recovered from Cooper, according to a law-enforcement source.
Q50 had been building a following in Chicago’s drill scene with raw street tracks and recent projects including “Get Back or Die Trying.” He was tied to the Bloodhound crew that also included Lil Jeff and Lil Scoom89, names already familiar to anyone tracking the city’s grim rap-and-violence cycle. He was just 22.
His mother, identified in reports as Machetta Dudley, did not stay quiet. In a fiery social-media post, she warned trolls celebrating the killing: “Somebody momma gone be crying like me… Y’all wanna troll I’m gone troll a lot of you… Now you gone have to fear his mother.”
Chicago police have opened a homicide investigation. Detectives have the gas-station cameras and the two fleeing vehicles. As of Monday afternoon, they had no arrests and no public motive.
The video keeps circulating. The Tesla sits in the lot on the footage, door open, the night still dark. Another young drill name added to a list that never seems to get shorter.
