BRISTOL, Tenn. — Tempers boiled over on pit road Saturday night after the Bass Pro Shops Night Race, as Ryan Blaney and Carson Hocevar traded punches in a raw, old-school confrontation that quickly overshadowed Joey Logano’s late-race victory.

The fight erupted after Hocevar made contact with Blaney on Lap 458, sending the No. 12 Team Penske Ford hard into the wall and ending Blaney’s night. Blaney had led a race-high 202 laps and was running near the front when the two battled for position entering Turn 1. Blaney said Hocevar “never lifted.”

After the checkered flag, Blaney walked straight to Hocevar’s pit stall. He shoved the 23-year-old Spire Motorsports driver. Hocevar, who stands several inches taller, answered with two right hands that connected with Blaney’s face and knocked him to the pavement. Blaney got back up, threw a punch of his own, and crew members from both teams rushed in to separate them.

Hocevar finished third. Logano took the lead with seven laps remaining and won. Kyle Larson was second. Blaney was scored 33rd.

“He just kind of said one thing and then went after me, and I wasn’t going to take it,” Hocevar said afterward. “They got an old-school Bristol show here.”

Blaney was blunt about the on-track contact: “He crossed and never lifted, and I got crashed.”The scene on pit road was chaotic. A large group of fans booed Logano during his victory celebration while cheering the scrap between Blaney and Hocevar. Video circulating online captured the melee from close range, with media and crew members packed tightly around the two drivers.

One clip posted by Kevin Dalton showed the camera work becoming extremely shaky and blurry amid the pushing and shouting, prompting some viewers to speculate the cameraman had been jostled or briefly lost control of the shot. No official reports confirmed a medical emergency involving media personnel.

The altercation marked the first time a driver physically confronted Hocevar after months of complaints about his aggressive style. Veterans have accused the young driver of refusing to lift and creating unnecessary contact. Saturday night, that frustration spilled onto pit road in front of a packed Bristol crowd.NASCAR officials and team members eventually restored order. Neither driver appeared to suffer serious injury, though Blaney showed a mark near his left eye.

The Night Race already featured 10 cautions and a wild finish. The pit-road fight gave fans the kind of raw emotion Bristol has long been known for — and the kind of moment that travels far beyond the speedway.
