Somebody out here hired the budget version of the King of Pop and the results are so spectacularly bad it’s almost art.
A video circulating Sunday shows a guy in a waterfront pavilion doing what the overlay text sarcastically calls “The best Michael Jackson impersonator.” The caption says it all: “When you hire Michael Crackson from Temu.” That’s not an exaggeration. This is what happens when the event budget said “MJ tribute” and the organizer said, “I know a guy.”
The setting is a sunny outdoor pavilion with white tablecloths, a DJ setup, big speakers, and water in the background. Looks like a community festival, church picnic, or some Florida-adjacent park event where people showed up expecting light entertainment and instead got a live-action fever dream. Palm trees. Concrete steps. A couple of folding tables. The kind of place where you’d normally see a cover band playing “Don’t Stop Believin’” at 2 p.m. Instead, this man took the stage.
He’s wearing the starter-kit Thriller fit: black jacket, red shirt with some sparkle action on the collar, black pants, white socks pulled up to mid-calf, and black loafers. One white glove. Curly hair that is doing its own thing. From the back, he almost passes for a second if you squint and have already had two beers. Then he turns around.
The face does not say “King of Pop.” The face says “I watched three YouTube tutorials at 2 a.m. and I’m committing.” He’s gripping the mic like it owes him money and hitting moves that exist in the same ZIP code as Michael Jackson’s catalog but never quite make it to the same house. There’s a spin that looks more like he slipped on a wet napkin. There’s a crotch grab that arrives three beats late. There’s an attempted moonwalk that is just a man sliding his feet while looking mildly concerned about his balance. Water droplets or bubbles float through the air at one point, because, of course, they do.
The best part is how seriously he’s taking it. No wink. No “this is a bit.” This man is in the zone. He’s squinting into the sun, hitting the poses, and selling every second like Madison Square Garden is watching instead of a handful of people at picnic tables.
The crowd is not selling it with him.
A woman with long braids is laughing so hard she’s folding in half. Another woman in a black top and gold chain is clapping and covering her mouth like she just watched her cousin fall off a rental scooter. People are pointing. Phones are up. Nobody is pretending this is good. They’re treating it like the entertainment they didn’t know they needed. One guy in a yellow shirt just stands there grinning like he paid for the cheap seats and somehow got the show of the year.
