A 23-year-old Milwaukee woman was so bored she walked into her old high school, told the front office she was a substitute teacher, and spent the next couple periods calling kids fat, sorting them by race, blasting rap music, and asking who was still a virgin. Amy Jones now faces six felonies and up to 21 years in prison because the vibes were off that morning.

On September 24, Jones blended in with students walking through the front door of Rufus King International High School, went through security, and overheard office staff talking about the substitute company. She told a secretary she was from that company, signed the sheet as “Amy Jones sub,” and got sent upstairs. A real teacher recognized her from when she was a student, pointed her toward the office, and even spent the first 20 minutes of class with her before leaving. Eight teachers were out that day and only seven slots were filled, so she got lucky with the open room. The principal later said staff never checked her against the district’s substitute system. No ID, no app, no phone. She just said the words and they handed her a classroom.

Once the actual teacher left, the complaint says she closed the door, turned off the lesson videos, and started yelling that the students were irritating as fuck. She separated boys and girls, then sorted kids by race and skin tone, talking about melanin, “white-passing Mexicans,” and who could get green cards. She played loud rap music and tried to get the class to sing along while she “dissed” individual students for their weight, looks, race, or money. Students told police she called one kid “fat boy” and “fat ass,” told white boys they were the type of people who start school shootings and have incest, called Asian students Chinese, and used the N-word along with “white motherf^ckers” and “white as sh*t.”

She asked who was gay, who was a virgin, and whether a girl wanted to be a stripper or a hooker. She requested a vape or weed because the class was “so fucking lame and annoying.” She bragged about having felonies and said jail was fine. One student whose dad worked at the school got warned not to snitch or Jones would “get her.” She made graphic sexual comments, including one that was recorded on a student’s phone and later played back for her by detectives. She also put on a video about a gay transgender person who became a millionaire and ran an exercise on transitioning. When police asked why, she said she is a lesbian and saw “a lot of queers” so she wanted everyone to feel included.

Students started complaining to the school resource officer. Principal Doreen Badillo went to the room and had her escorted out before third period. Multiple kids had already recorded video and audio. Jones left identifying documents behind in the classroom. Detectives interviewed her days later, and she flat-out admitted she was impersonating a teacher. She said she went because she was bored, hates kids, and just wanted to fuck around. She confirmed the race-sorting, the fat comments, the virgin questions, the sexual talk, and the “birds and the bees” lecture, then agreed it was not appropriate. When told she would become infamous, she snapped her fingers and danced.

She has no prior criminal record. Police later arrested her at Granite Hills Hospital, a psychiatric facility where she had checked herself in after the incident. Her lawyer told the court she manages bipolar disorder and was in an acute manic episode because her prescription delivery was delayed and she was off her meds. A court commissioner set a $5,000 signature bond and ordered no contact with the school or the students named in the complaint. She is charged with one count of impersonating a public employee and five counts of exposing a child to harmful descriptions. Each is a Class I felony. Stacked, the maximum is 21 years and $60,000 in fines. Preliminary hearing is set for October 20.

Milwaukee Public Schools said the office staff failed to follow protocol and the principal told families there was “no excuse” for the lapse. Students recorded enough of it that the complaint reads like a highlight reel of every possible way to get removed from a building in under two periods. She got two full classes deep before anyone officially realized the substitute was not a substitute.
